Incident Type Glossary
Use these definitions to select the most accurate incident type. When in doubt, choose Suspicious Activity or Other and describe the situation in detail.
🔴 Serious Incidents
🔫
Robbery
Taking property directly from a person by force, threat, or intimidation — e.g. a mugging, armed hold-up, or carjacking. The victim is present during the crime. Always call 911 if in progress.
🏠
Burglary
Unlawful entry into a building, home, or structure to commit a crime inside — typically theft. The victim does not need to be present. Includes break-ins to sheds, garages, and storage units.
🤜
Assault
Physical attack or credible threat of bodily harm against a person — includes hitting, fighting, brandishing a weapon, or threatening language accompanied by aggressive behavior.
💊
Drug Activity
Visible or suspected drug use, sales, or distribution in a public or community space — e.g. open use in a parking lot, repeated foot-traffic consistent with dealing, or drug paraphernalia left in a shared area.
🟡 Moderate Incidents
🛍
Theft / Shoplifting
Taking property without force and without confronting the victim — includes shoplifting from a store, stealing items left unattended, or theft from an unlocked vehicle or yard.
🔨
Vandalism
Intentional destruction or defacement of property — broken windows, slashed tires, damaged fencing, graffiti tags on private or commercial property, or destruction of signage.
🚗
Vehicle Break-In
Forced or unauthorized entry into a parked vehicle — smashed windows, pried doors, or evidence of someone rummaging through a car, truck, or other vehicle. Use Robbery if the owner was present and confronted.
💳
Fraud / Scam
Deceptive schemes intended to obtain money, goods, or personal information — includes phone or email scams targeting community members, skimming devices on ATMs or gas pumps, identity theft, or contractor fraud.
🔵 Observation & Other
🚫
Trespassing
Someone entering or remaining on private property without permission — including posted "No Trespassing" areas, fenced lots, closed business premises after hours, or repeatedly accessing a neighbor's property uninvited.
👁
Suspicious Activity
Behavior that seems out of place or concerning but doesn't clearly fit another category — e.g. someone casing businesses, unfamiliar vehicles parked for long periods, individuals looking into cars or peering into homes.
🎨
Graffiti
Unsanctioned writing, tags, or artwork on public or private surfaces — walls, utility boxes, road signs, restrooms, or business exteriors. Use Vandalism if other property damage accompanied it.
📋
